Wood heating is the most widespread form of renewable energy utilisation in Europe. For centuries, wood heating has been used to provide effective heating on demand from a locally sourced fuel.
Significant advances have been made in wood heating in modern times. The development of automated control log heating systems has resulted in extremely efficient and user friendly systems. In addition, the development of automatically fed and controlled systems using wood in particle form (chip or pellet) now means that automated wood heating systems can be used in a similar manner to conventional oil or gas systems. | |

Automated Wood Heating Systems
Wood chip (or pellet) fuel is delivered by Arran Woodfuels into the wood fuel heating system store whenever required. In response to the heating demand of the building, the wood fuel is automatically fed into the boiler or stove. Wood Pellet stoves have their own integral storage hopper, whereas Wood Chip systems require larger storage bins. Modern wood chip and pellet boilers are not only fully automated, but are also extremely efficient, clean and reliable, and rival fossil fuel boilers in terms of convenience.
These technological advances and the low cost nature of wood fuel has led to a rapid increase in the use of wood heating in mainland Europe over recent years. Wood fuel is an effective, renewable and low cost alternative to fossil fuels and with ample amounts of raw material on Arran, island residents and businesses can now take major advantage of this natural fuel resource. |
