Firewood Logs

Nothing beats the smell of burning logs and a crackling fire on a cold winters night!

Our raw material supply of timber from the Arran renewable forests is mostly intended for the production of our biomass wood chips. However, some of the raw timber can be too large to go through our chipping machine, so this material goes instead to produce our Seasoned Firewood Logs.

All our logs are produced from local Arran forestry renewable timber which has been stored for over a year  in our large wood-stacks, under a special "breathing" membrane cover. This ensures full, natural seasoning by the wind and sun. The timber is not touched again until the moisture content is less than 35%.

We use our specialist Firewood Processor, imported from Finland, to cut and split  the timber into 8” logs (longer logs of any size can be cut to special order).  The split logs are usually produced in the Spring and are bagged in special ventilated 1m3 bags. The bags are stacked under cover for the summer, further seasoning down to a moisture content of around 15%-20%. This moisture content is important as dry logs produce much more heat per volume and makes them suitable for the new-generation biomass log central heating boilers, as well as open fires and multi-fuel stoves.

During busy times, we deliver 7 days a week, but it always helps to book your firewood requirements in advance, especially in the weeks leading up to Christmas when we are understandably very busy.  Please drop us an email or telephone to place your order.

Logs are delivered in  barrow bags - 1m3 bags - 2m3 bulk loads.  (We also supply limited amounts in small sacks to Self-Catering establishments or by special order).

Experience has taught us that most of our customers prefer their logs to be delivered in clean tidy bulk bags rather than strewn across their driveway. This is the  reason we offer our logs in manageable bulk bags, allowing us to deliver your logs exactly where you want them, subject of course to access restrictions. If kept covered, your logs will then remain protected from the weather in the bag and continue to season until you are ready to use or stack them. A small refundable deposit is required for each bag delivered & returned.

Whilst bulk bags are the favoured delivery option, we also deliver our logs loose by the "Transit Tipper"  load.  Each load is approx. 2m3 and offer a considerable saving over the price of bagged logs.

Why use firewood?

Firewood is an environmentally friendly fuel, which adds virtually no 'fossil' carbon dioxide footprint to our present environment and thus helps minimise the effects of climate change as compared to using gas, oil or coal.

Arran Woodfuels Firewood is also a renewable resource, grown locally on the Island of Arran. By utilising this valuable energy source on the island, we avoid unnecessary freight and transport costs as well as unnecessary  distribution carbon-miles.
