About Us

Arran Woodfuels have as our core business, the production and delivery of modern Wood Chip fuel to householders and businesses across the Island of Arran. In addition, we produce seasoned Firewood Logs and are exclusive suppliers of Balcas Brites Wood Pellets on Arran, Mid-Argyll and Kintyre areas.

Through our parent company Arran Energy Ltd, we also utilise a carefully chosen group of equipment suppliers and installers who are accredited under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). They provide a range of domestic and commercial Woodfuel heating systems, all complying with the requirements of the current grant aid schemes. Our equipment is also guaranteed to be fully compatible with our range of biomass wood fuels available on Arran.

Arran Woodfuels is the successful partnership of Angus Smith and Duncan Mulholland and is a trading name of Arran Energy Ltd. Both Angus and Duncan were born and brought-up on the island and between them bring a wealth of technical, commercial & timber industry experience to the business.

The business was established during 2007 after the founders realised that Arran has a wealth of renewable biomass raw materials available. This forest residue material, currently left behind during timber harvesting, could be processed into an extremely useful biomass fuel to heat Arran homes and businesses. Extensive investigation was carried out into wood fuel enterprises in other countries, such as Norway, Sweden, Finland (as well as the rest of the UK), resulting in a robust business model for the Island of Arran.

Arran Woodfuels is fully committed to the sustainable supply of modern wood fuels on the Island of Arran, allowing locals to reduce their dependancy on imported oil & gas from the mainland and reduce their carbon footprint as well as annual fuel bills. We also utilise the extensive skills of our associated suppliers and installers to provide a complete woodfuel service to our Isle of Arran customers.
