Grants & Funding

Arran Energy Ltd (Arran Woodfuels parent company) are ready to specify, supply and install a wide range of biomass heating equipment to homes and businesses on Arran which are guaranteed to be compatible with the biomass woodfuels supplied by us. Arran Energy Ltd also undertake to supply & install all equipment in accordance with the requirements of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), to ensure all customer qualify for capital grant funding assistance. We can also provide help and guidance on applications for grants and interest-free loans.

The following schemes are curently in operation;

Scottish Biomass Heat Scheme  

New funds are being made available for support under the new SCOTTISH BIOMASS HEAT SCHEME. This scheme is managed by Forestry Commission Scotland's Wood Energy Project. The 3rd round of this scheme will be open until 12th February 2010 for any business wishing to install renewable biomass heating-only systems at their premises.

This will be of particular interest to Arran's hotels and B&B establishments, as it will provide financial support for installing a new wood chip or pellet fuelled boiler.

Home Renewables Grant  

If you own your own home and want to install new wood energy heating equipment, then a grant will help to bring your plans to life. The Energy Saving Scotland Home Renewables Scheme is managed by the Energy Savings Trust in Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.

Grants of 30%, up to £4,000 ot the total cost of products and installation are available.

This grant scheme applies only to residential buildings in Scotland. You must be the owner and resident of the property, or a builder and developer applying on behalf of the future homeowner. The property must be used by you or your family as your principal private residence, or in the case of a new build it must be intended to become your principal private residence.

Community & Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES)  

CARES stands for Community and Renewable Energy Scheme and Community Energy Scotland have been awarded the contract to deliver CARES across the whole of Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government. The scheme can offer grants of up to £150K for a wide variety of community renewable energy projects.

CARES offers grants to a range of community organisations to help with the installation of a variety of renewable energy technologies. Communities may apply for funding for technical assistance and capital grants for renewable energy equipment installation and associated costs. Under CARES there is no set grant funding. The amount of funding awarded is determined on a case by case basis.

All legally constituted, non-profit distributing community organisations are eligible to apply. Such organisations may include (but are not restricted to):

- local/national voluntary, non-profit and charitable organisations
- local rural partnerships
- local authorities
- housing associations
- Universities and schools

Energy Saving Scotland - Interest Free Loan  

Energy Saving Scotland home loans are interest free and can help you stop wasting energy, lower fuel bills and tackle climate change. The scheme is managed by the Energy Saving Trust in Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.

Loans of between £500 and £10,000 are available for home owners investing in renewable energy in their property. The loans are interest free so you only pay back what you borrow. Applicants can pay back the loan in monthly instalments over a maximum of eight years. Loans can be combined with grants such as the Home Renewables Grant above.

Energy Saving Scotland - Small Business Loan  
 
This scheme,  funded by the Scottish Government, offers interest-free loans to businesses between £1,000 and £100,000 and aims to support firms taking action to reduce their energy bills.

The scheme is aimed at Scottish businesses that fall within the EC definition of Small and Medium sized Enterprise (SME), private sector landlords, not-for-profit organisations and charities. However, businesses operating in the fisheries sector do not qualify.

A range of measures that reduce energy consumption and renewable energy technology installations are eligible. 
New wood energy heating systems may be funded by a combination of grants and small business loans.
